Thai massage, deeply rooted in Thailand’s cultural heritage, has been passed down through generations. Originating within families—wives massaging husbands, children massaging parents or grandparents—it initially relied on hands, elbows, knees, and feet for self-massage or mutual therapy. Over time, tools like coconut shells, shells, wooden back rollers, and herbal compresses (luk pra kob) were developed to enhance pressure and incorporate heat therapy using steam or medicinal herbs.
From familial care, this practice evolved into a skilled profession, gaining recognition in local communities and eventually becoming a formal occupation.
